Envisaging Sustainable Building Materials for Earthen Construction Practices

Abstract Cost-effective construction practices generally rely on the selection of sustainable building materials irrespective their environmental responsiveness and adaptability towards developing a comforting habitat. Present study aims to address feasibility soil-based blocks using natural recyclable by following modified adobe method. Unburnt bricks were manufactured from native red soil optimized proportion low cost binders tested for durability thermal behaviour under various experimental conditions. An equi-molal binary mixture cement lime (15% each) was turned out be best combination provide excellent compressive strength (6.43±0.15 N/mm 2 ). As per rate water absorption stabilization during curing process, impounded provided better results compared mat spray curing.
